I am writing to acknowledge the extraordinary work of Mayor Michael Peragine who was elected Mayor of the Village of Oyster Bay Cove last June. Within a year, he has initiated activity the likes of which the Village has never seen.
Mayor Peragine initiated an independent professional review of the Village Police Force which constituted the first comprehensive analysis of the police force in history.
Mayor Peragine initiated dialogue with the Oyster Bay and Syosset Fire Departments discussing not only the adequacy of the fire service provided to the Village residents but also the cost.
Mayor Peragine negotiated with the village garbage contractor to obtain better service.
Mayor Peragine submitted a budget without raising taxes even though many of the surrounding villages have raised taxes.
Mayor Peragine stopped the cluster zoning development project.
Mayor Peragine appointed a new village clerk at the same pay as the old village clerk. The new village clerk works full time while the old village clerk worked part time.
Mayor Peragine nominated new members of the Planning Board and the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Village from different parts of the village, such as south of Northern Boulevard, which heretofore had little or no representation in village government.
Mayor Peragine arranged for the village bank deposits to be invested more prudently, with a return of interest more than double the prior year's.
Mayor Peragine initiated the concept of a village newsletter.
The list goes on and on.
All of the residents of the Village of Oyster Bay Cove should take note of the outstanding dedication and effort that has been put forth by Mayor Peragine.
