The OBEN Lightning soccer travel team met the Long Beach Locos for the second time this season. In the first game, the Lightning eliminated the Locos from the Waldbaum cup by beating them 3 to 1. The second encounter came on Sunday, May 3, where the Locos had a fabulous first half scoring 3 goals to the Lightning 1. The second half was a great half for our team coming back with two goals and tied the score at 3. With a few minutes left in the game the Locos scored their fourth goal to win the game. Jeffrey Allen, Andres Orange and John Murphy scored for the Lightning.

The Tornadoes were hosted by the Kachinas in Floral Park on Saturday, May 2. The field condition was poor, puddles of water were scattered all over the field, but this was no excuse for our loss. During the first half, some of our players did not seem like the players we have been seeing during prior games. It appears that there were some sleep-overs the night before that the coach was not aware of. Keryn Mierdiercks had two great shots on goal in the first half. The first was a blasting high ball that just barely missed the upper right hand corner of the net. The second was a low shot that most spectators felt was a goal, however, the referee did not call it a goal. The referee and our coach were not in a position to call it nor to argue it properly. The Kachinas scored their first goal by taking a low shot uncontrollable by our goalie. The first half ended Kachinas 1, Tornadoes 0.

The second half was a physical one, several times the referee had to stop play due to injuries. Our goalie, Casey Leigh had a spectacular day, stopping some great shots taken by the Kachina's outstanding forwards. Alexandra Manfredi (our game captain), played superb in defense. Our goal came after the Kachina's second goal, it was a result of Keryn Meierdiercks pass to Elena Albanese who dribbled by a Kachina defender and taking a grounding shot past the Kachina's goalie. The loss brought the Tornadoes record to two winds and two losses.

Our intramural games were played on Sunday, May 3, at the Vernon School. The results follow:
