As a relatively new member to Oyster Bay Cove (a mere 12 years), only once have I had the privilege to experience the political process at work in this village. It wasn't until Mike Peragine stirred the pot, and caused all of the sediment which had been lying sleepily and undisturbed for many years to rise to the top, that this community was made to find its place in the ever changing Long Island environment. He unearthed a plan which was all but a fait accompli to break down the Pulling estate into a cluster housing development. There is no doubt that this community was unpleasantly surprised by that information; sufficiently so, that they felt that for the first time in 16 years, opposition to the powers that had existed was appropriate and valid, for indeed he was elected.

It's time to remember that, at that time, two names were placed before the village for inclusion as candidates for the positions of village trustees and were in concurrence with Mike Peragine, but those names did not appear on the ballot. This time the names of Thomas Fitzsimmons and Richard Appell will appear as the community has rallied behind them and ensured that will be the case. Other candidates may now ape the same platform, but be sure that Mr. Fumante and Mr. O'Kane are indeed associated with that position of the past administration.

The Friends of Oyster Bay Cove see this community as just that, and wish only to encourage all of us to participate in this government, not by invitation but by our desire to do so. If you have any wish to make your feelings known: if you wish that you could make a difference in Oyster Bay Cove: this mayor and Richard Appell and Thomas Fitzsimmons are just the people who will encourage you to join in the quest. The only requirements are time, love of community, commitment to purpose and no desire for remuneration or sleep. If you still are interested, vote for the Friends of Oyster Bay and apply here.
