Angelo and Tony Vitucci, owners of Tesoro's Ristorante hosted the dinner for the Lady Bayhawks, said Pat Considine, St. Dominic's Director of Development. Last year Major's Steakhouse in Woodbury did it for the boys and this year, four star restaurant Tesoro's Ristorante, did it for the girls!
The Lady Bayhawks are the Catholic School League 1998 Champions and 1998 State Champions.
"It's a nice way for the community and the students to share in the victory," said Pat Considine. Monsignor Charles A. Ribuado and Ms. Considine often hold their business meetings at the restaurant, she said, appreciative of the Vitucci's gesture.
Of the Lady Bayhawks: "They did a good job," said coach Michele O'Brien. "They believe in themselves and they believe in the program." They work day in and day out, during the six month season, she said.
"This year no one expected us to finish as we did. We lost seven games - the most games we've lost since 1993-1994 and were still able to do the tremendous job we did before the end of the season as both Catholic School League Champions and State Champions for 1998.
"The reason is the kids commitment to the game. They sacrifice a lot and put their hearts into it. They had great unity and there was great leadership on the part of the seniors.
The four captains of the team are seniors. They are: Kathryn Harty, Erin Gartland, Tricia Paul and Stephanie O'Brien.
The graduating seniors' plans are: Kathryn Harty has a full scholarship for basketball to Lomoyne.
Stephanie O'Brien has a full scholarship to Barry in Florida. It is a soccer and basketball combination, said Coach O'Brien.
Erin Gartland is going to Boston College.
Tricia Paul is going to Scranton or Fairfield: she hasn't decided as yet.
Megan Brown and Mary Rossiter are going to Nassau Community College.
Coach O'Brien said, "Returning next year to the team are six players - so the future looks bright for the lady Bayhawks!
"They are going to San Diego next year for a tournament, the day after Christmas. It's the Surf and Slam Classic in San Diego that runs from Dec. 26 to 31. They will be playing against very competitive teams that are ranked," she said.
