The dampness and the rain didn't dampen the spirits of everyone who turned out for the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce's ÒOperation Clean Sweep.Ó As the president of the chamber it gave me great pride to watch the community work together. Proving that individuals who share a common direction and a sense of common purpose can succeed.
From the Girl and Boy Scouts to the Atlantic Steamer Fire Company No. 1 all should be commended for giving unselfishly of their time, energy and resources. The list of volunteers is too long to mention, but we wish to extend a special thank you to Chief Frank Ozol, Michael Corssen, Bob Connors, Lynn McDonnell, Tammy and Richard Ashley and Joe McLaughlin, whose organization skills and enlistment of a crew so that we could have many hands made the event the success that it was.
The turnout of business persons, youngsters and residents in their rain slickers was a sight for even the most cynical to envy. To have in excess of 50 volunteers on such a gloomy day proves that community spirit and pride is alive and well in Oyster Bay. As you walk down the street and see the beautiful flowers and clean sidewalks remember the many volunteers who made it happen. We certainly won't forget any of you. Our thanks for a job well done.
