There are two village trustee positions up for election on June 16 in Oyster Bay Cove. And there are two candidates, Ralph Fumante and Denis O'Kane, who are committed to maintaining the special character and natural beauty of our village.
Many residents are concerned about new construction in the village, construction that does not conform to existing zoning ordinances. Rather than standing by passively, Ralph Fumante and Denis O'Kane bring an active sense of stewardship to the task of preserving the unique quality of Oyster Bay Cove.
The village must develop a plan for maintaining the few remaining green spaces. Protection of the eco-system affects not just the village, but the surrounding areas of Long Island as well. This is our last chance to save something that will otherwise be lost forever.
When an election approaches, it is common for people to exaggerate what is at stake. But in this case, our community stands at a crossroads, and the decisions we make today will have ramifications that extend into the far future. We must take care that the village we love is entrusted to people who have demonstrated qualities of devotion, humility, and respect.
