The Army Corps of Engineers has made permit decisions on several local waterfront projects in March. James W. Haggerty, chief of the Eastern Permits section reported that one of those is for a Cove Neck dock.

The permit application (#199802820) for the pier of H. Holterbosch received a FNW (confirmed applicability of nationwide general permit(s)) on March 4. The Holterbosch's are the owners of Heineken Breweries. Their mansion is on the right as you leave the harbor.

The dock is in the Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge. "He is just replacing a dock that is already existing," said Mr. Haggerty. It has not gotten its National Fish and Wildlife permit yet, he said. "They have to get approval from them before he can start the project."

On Friday, May 1, Bob Parris, deputy project leader for the Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex said they have not received an application on the dock as yet. The Town of Oyster Bay requires all permits be obtained before going to them for a town permit.
