Joseph Vaccaro, 89, of Oyster Bay, died on March 21, 1998.

Member of the Lions Club of Oyster Bay, the Oyster Bay Knights of Columbus Council 1206 and the Italian-American Citizens Club of Oyster Bay.

Husband of Anne. Father of Lucille Guibord (Karl) and Charles (Janet). Grandfather of Joseph, David and Matthew. Brother of Sam, Rose, Mary, Mario, Charles and the late Josephine and James. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.

Carlo Scarinci, 92, of Bayville, died on March 22, 1998.

Husband of the late Angela. Father of Luciana Porto (Vincent) and Remo (Irene). Grandfather of eight. Great-grandfather of three. Brother of Anna Cermingnani.

Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Gertrude's RC Church. Entombment St. John's Cemetery.

Jack R. Howard, 87, a trustee and resident of Centre Island, died on March 22, 1998.

Born in Manhattan, he was the son of Roy W. Howard who built the United Press into an international wire service. He attended the Phillips Exeter Academy and earned his degree from Yale University. He was a WWII Navy veteran retiring as lieutenant comander.

Mr. Howard worked as a reporter and copy editor for newspapers in China and Japan. He then joined the Scripps Howard newspaper group where he was a copy editor at The Indianapolis Times and The Washington Daily News. He worked for the radio station KNOX in Knoxville, TN, which was owned by Scripps Howard. He became president of the company's two-station operation in New York and was elected executive vice president of the E.W. Scripps Co., later becoming president, succeeding his father. Mr. Howard brought the company into the broadcast division which today includes television stations.

Mr. Howard is survived by his children, Pamela Howard of Manhattan and Centre Island and Michael Balfe Howard of Denver; his sister Jane Howard Perkins; and seven granchildren.
