'It's a Wonderful Town!'

It's a wonderful town, and local merchants have proved it by taking part in the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce Seasonal Splendor Teddy Bear Contest. They have been tucking little bears in their windows for all to see. It has been really fun looking for them while shopping in Oyster Bay!

The winner of the contest is Audra Levey, an eighth-grader at the Vernon Middle School. She counted 308 bears at 31 locations. Here they are: Christ Church Nursery School/Senior Center - 5; The Daffodil - 5; Smith Jewelers & Opticians - 1; Book Mark Cafe - 1; Rich Bern Travel - 1; Terry Bears - 223; Nobman's Hardware Emporium - 4; Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts - 2; Creative Compositions - 1; Cat & Mouse Collectibles - 1; Depoe's - 5; Oyster Bay Wine Cellar - 1; For Pets Only - 1; First Encounter Hair Design - 4; Appliance World - 2; Look Who's Cooking - 2; The Right Stuff - 1; Snouder's Corner Drugstore - 10; Bagels and More - 4; Oyster Bay Optics - 1; Attic Door - 10; High Lights - 1; Blocklyn Books - 2; Brigid - 3; Robert Thek's office - 2; Oyster Bay Travel - 1; Buckingham's Variety Store - 9; Carvel - 2; Chalikian's - 1; Oyster Bay Frame Shop - 1; and Dodd's & Eder -1.

Seasonal Splendor has been great fun. I volunteered for the job early last year. I had been the chairman of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce Seasonal Splendor Committee several years ago. The co-chair was Mel Rubin. We had a wonderful time.

There were a few glitches - learning lessons - and I thought I would like to do it all again, using the experience I had gathered. Things would be even better this time. Well, I've had a great time. There have been some glitches again - and more learning experiences for me, but, with the help of Kathy Wilson, chamber executive director and Greg Koke, president - who is always willing to give more - it has been grand.

This truly proves again, this is a wonderful town!
