Hurricanes Fall To Raiders

Dominick Ferreira did his best to will Mineola Hurricanes 10U with a two-hit game, but Mineola Hurricanes dropped a 12-2 contest to the North Patchogue/ Medford Raiders in game one at the Willis Avenue Field in Mineola. The Raiders hammered Mineola Hurricanes pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 11 hits, four RBIs and 10 runs scored.

The top of the second inning saw Mineola take an early lead, 1-0. The Hurricanes’s threat began with a single by Ferreira. A stolen base then moved Ferreira from first to second.

Patrick O’Gara singled, scoring Ferreira. The Raiders didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the second inning when they scored on a two-run error and an RBI single. The Raiders tacked on another three runs in the third.

One run in the top of the fourth helped the Hurricanes close its deficit to 6-2. An RBI single by Ferreira fueled the Hurricanes’s comeback.

The Raiders survived the Hurricanes’s surge and put up four more runs in the fourth. 

The Raiders scored on an RBI single, a two-run single and a steal of home. T.J. McManus took the loss. He allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits in 2 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out two.

 

Hurricanes Strike Back

Mineola Hurricanes 10U seize victory thanks to a late double and beat the North Patchogue/Medford Raiders 5-3. The top of the first saw the Raiders take an early 1-0 lead. After a quick strike from the Raiders, the Hurricanes responded with three runs in the first.

 

The Hurricanes scored on an RBI double by Kevin Pusey, an RBI single by Dominick Ferreira, and an RBI double by Nick Ramos. The Raiders evened up the score at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the second on an RBI single and a bases loaded walk. The Hurricanes managed to grab the lead after a strong fifth inning. Mineola went up for good on a two-run double by A.J. Henriques bringing home Connor Eakin and Jack Mackay.

 

Chris Marotta started the game going four innings allowing three runs on five hits walking five and striking out one. Pusey came in on relief. He held the Raiders hitless over two innings, allowing no earned runs, walking one and striking out two to earn the victory.
