Good news for the Mineola football team as they beat Valley Stream North on Saturday, Oct. 10, 34-21 giving them a 2-3 record. Derek Cole, who was announced the Conference IV Player of the Week, helped Mineola roll past Valley Stream North as he rushed for a remarkable 298 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns.
It was a well-played game by the team’s captain, Mike Escobar, who threw for a touchdown and rushed for another. The defense produced two sacks and one interception as they played strong throughout the game.
Mineola’s next game is a tough one against Roosevelt, which is currently tied for first place. Mineola is still trying to fight for a playoff spot as they have two more games remaining.
In other sports news, the girls volleyball team is now 11-0, landing them in first place of their conference. They are shooting for success for the rest of the season and playoffs as well.
