Mineola residents Taylor Keenan, Jane Kim, Mikayla Lucio and Victoria Roldan were part of the Wheatley School’s varsity girls field hockey team, which has been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for academic excellence and has been declared New York State Champions in its scholar/athlete recognition award program. This program, which started 23 years ago, recognizes athletic teams from across New York State for the exemplary academic performance of its team members. Based on a composite of the grade point averages among team members, team champions are selected for each varsity sport from those high schools across New York State that enter the competition.
For the recently completed 2013-14 fall sports season, Wheatley’s unweighted GPA of 97.308 is the highest GPA in the sport of field hockey.
Coached by Kristin Adamski and Kristina DePalma, the team consists of Captain Keenan, Kim, Lucio and Roldan along with captains Samantha Siegler, Samantha Palazzolo, Julie Rajman, Allie Schreiber and teammates Farrah Siegler, Perri Schreiber, Namita Reddy,
Amanda Sivin, Nicole Degliomini, Jenna Heller, Jessica Sakeni, Hannah Frantz, Lauren Frantz, Carly Brensilber, Marion Wolloch, Morgan Silverman, Jamie Chusid and Stephanie Kazhiloti.
The team will be recognized at the East Williston School District Board of Education meeting on Jan. 27.
