Mineola High School’s Boy’s Winter Track team turned in a solid performance at the 2013 Conference VI Championships held at St. Anthony’s High School on Jan. 17. Conference VI includes nine teams (Mineola, Valley Stream North, Roosevelt, Oyster Bay, Friends Academy, Wheatley, Clarke, Locust Valley, and Cold Spring Harbor.)
Mineola placed second overall and had several outstanding performances.
Senior Captain Freddy Lang was a triple threat heavy-hitter, receiving All Conference honors in three separate events. Lang was the 600-meter conference champion with an official time of 1:2, and was All Conference in the 3200 meter and 4x800 meter relay team.
Senior Captain Brad Coleman dominated in all three jumping events, also receiving All Conference recognition three times. Coleman was the Conference VI Champion in the Long Jump with his impressive mark of 19 feet 10 inches.
He also placed 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 8 1/2 inches and second place in the high jump.
Captain Anthony Caruso led Mineola in the shot put, receiving All Conference recognition with a third place finish, recording an impressive distance of 38 feet 11 inches. Captain Dylan Bestler was All Conference in the 600 meters finishing second overall.
Robby Lang added additional points to the team’s score with his 3rd place finish in the 1000 meters. He earned All Conference recognition and is one of the underclassmen with tremendous potential and a bright future with the Mineola Track program.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Joe Mulder, Jake Tavernite, Freddy Lang and Robby Lang were conference champions, placing first overall in the relay competition. The team came from behind to take the lead and secure an exciting victory over some of the best relay teams in the Conference.
