2nd Annual Executive Cup Soccer Tournament A Smash Hit

More than 100 high school student athletes representing 43 local areas played in front of over 30 college coaches

Nassau County once again held the Nassau County Executive Cup showcase at Mitchel Field stadium, which involved 96 high school student-athletes from 43 local areas split into two girls and four boys teams on July 21. Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello officially got the event under way after he performed the ceremonial coin toss and congratulated the participants and the fans.

The event’s main focus is to give the high-school athletes, mostly incoming seniors and juniors, an opportunity to give their all in front of college coaches from the northeast.

“We wanted to give these young adults a brief look at what it will be like to play soccer at the next level; all while educating them about the athletic recruiting process,” said organizer Scott Knight of andGo Sports.

The college “showcase” event followed a kick-off meet and greet dinner held the week before at the Mineola Portuguese Center, which featured speakers such as Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos on leadership, Molloy College Soccer Head Coach (Men’s & Women’s) Danny Longo on what to expect from the recruiting process and ended with a tutor giving tips for taking entrance exams. Last year’s cup featured about 45 students, and all those who were seniors at the time are now pursuing playing soccer in college.
