This past Mother’s Day on Sunday May 13, playing on the road, the fifth grade Chiefs lacrosse team won one for the moms and upset the undefeated power house Manhasset Indians 9-5. The Chiefs offense was on fire with great team play. The boys moved the ball up and down the field against the Indians with ease.
Chiefs (5-1) team play and unselfishness resulted in scoring by midfielder’s Michael O’Connell (2 goals, 3 assists), Luke Baskind (1 goal, 1 assist), Matt Sluka (1 goal), Thomas Albig (1 goal) and attackmen Caden Hawkinson (2 goals) and Mark Chiappone (1 goal).
Chiefs midfielder’s Joey Ruscillo and Ryan Dieguez fought the Indians for every ground ball. Chiefs attackmen Jack O’Brien, Julian Alfaro, Nick Vitanza and Ryan Calderone worked the ball in the offensive zone putting pressure on the Indians goalie.
Chiefs defensemen Anthony Guinta, Dylan Vincenti, Joe Tallini and James Reardon pounded the Indians in front of the crease. Great saves by Chiefs goalies Matty O’Connell (1 goal) and Mike Sinisi rounded out an all around solid team performance.
Before the game, the Chiefs presented their mothers with Mother’s Day flowers.
