Led by solid pitching and timely hitting, the Orioles topped the Cardinals 11-7 in its MAA minor league game on April 21. Sean Fracclvieri, Joey Franzini, Ryan Burke and Joey Franzini starred in the game for the Orioles, delivering RBI hits. The Cardinals were led in the field by two fantastic, unassisted double plays by Jimmy Tighe. Liam Russelman sparked the Cards offense, scoring three runs and driving in two. Matthew Cobos and Jack Mackey each scored runs for the Cardinals’ off great base running.
The Diamondbacks (sponsored by Dominick’s Deli) defeated the Orioles (sponsored by JLJ Enterprises) in a closely fought 5-4 game in the MAA Majors division on April 21. Robert Egan and Tyge Duffy led the D-Backs pitching efforts with Duffy throwing three scoreless innings in relief. Mark Anderson and Joseph Kern both had multi-hit games with Jon DeSousa striking the big hit to drive in the tying and winning run. In the field, Kevin Perlow, Nick Dos Santos and Joe Kern all played well recording key-outs. The Orioles’ Tony Macchietto and Isaiah Alonzo-St. Surin led a strong pitching effort. Andrew Ariza, Isaiah Alonzo-St. Surin and Ryan Duffy all had RBIs for the O’s. In the field, Matt Destefano, Quinn Revelant and Tony Macchietto all recorded a number of outs in a well-played defensive game.
The Mineola Bulldogs and Mineola Thunderbolts both opened their season in a high-scoring game on April 20. Victoria Vangranbergen, Mickayla Mackey and Miranda Bradley contributed strong games on the mound and in the field for the Thunderbolts. The Bulldogs were paced by Ava Murphy, Jenna Cox, Kathleeen Duggan and Victoria Venus whose hits advanced runners and scored runs. With Toni Ondris playing great behind the plate, the Bulldogs received strong pitching efforts from Meaghan McCaffrey and Mikaylah Dalton. The Bulldogs prevailed by a 15-5 score.
Melissa Pereira’s two goals led the way as the Red team topped the White 3-0 in a well-played game by both teams on April 20. Pereira also played solid in goal for her team in the second half, making crucial saves off close-in shots by Kaitlin Nikolic, Megan Russelman and Roisin Daly. Keriann Zappalla also scored for the Red. Jenna Anderson, Christina Hefele, Paulina Sanchez and Diana Carvalho each played exceptional games for their teams on defense.
