Two Mineola High School varsity football players were honored at the Nassau County High School Football Coaches Association’s 46th Annual Gridiron Banquet, held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Wednesday evening, Nov. 30.
Rob Clarkin, Senior QB and Joe Massaro, Senior MLB/RB, both received All-County honors for their 2011 on field performance. Clarkin and Massaro were also named to the NCHSFCA Twentieth Annual Academic All-Conference Team, based on combined athletic/academic achievement.
Clarkin, a two-year Captain, passed for over 1,000 yards and 13 TD’s in 6 games. Massaro, a Co-Captain, led the team’s defensive efforts, totaling 97 tackles (74 solo) in 7 games.
Additionally, Brian Gaffney, Junior RB/DB, received All Conference IV honors, and Senior Captain Steven Napolitano, RB, and Senior WR/DB Tom Breslin were named National Football Foundation Scholar Athletes.
Head Coach Dan Guido reached a distinguished milestone, completing his 25th year at the helm of the Mustangs. Supported by assistants John Tortora and Helms Bohringer, the Mustangs season culminated with another county playoff berth in 2011.
