Mavericks Split at Bellmore Tourney

Nov. 6-The BU7 Mineola Mavericks traveled to Bellmore to play in a mini-tournament with the FC Bellmore PAL Chelsea and FC Roosevelt United. In the opener Mikie Duda put the Mavericks ahead early but Bellmore tied the score before halftime. The Mavericks scored four goals to break the game wide open in the second half and secure their victory.

EJ Vangrembergen broke the tie and Mac Kelly’s added two insurance goals. Jack Sargeant added a late tally to complete the Mavericks’ scoring. The combination of Nick Kostoulis and Malcolm Decollibus in goal proved to be successful.

The Mavericks fell behind 2-0 to Roosevelt in the second game.  Sargeant’s goal in the second half got Mineola back in the game and James Rosellon nearly tied the score.  Mineola battled hard with Decollibus and Oleska Lawro leading the way, but could not find the equalizer, falling 2-1 to Roosevelt.

Mineola Magic Tops Oyster Bay

Nov. 5-The BU10 Mineola Magic continued its winning streak with a 1-0 victory over the Oyster Bay All Stars with outstanding midfield play all game long by Aidan McMahon, Zach Wasnofski, Karthik Pitchayan, Matthew Tarantola and Jack Keys. The Magic struck early, as Kieran Hendry zoomed past defenders on the right side before a perfect cross that Kevin Graf blasted past the goalie.

The Magic’s stingy defense was led by Stephen Collica, Kevin Graca and superb goaltending by Dylan Renner. The Magic improved its record to 4-3 with victory.

Mineola Magic Stuns Garden City

Nov. 6-A solid team effort earned the BU10 Mineola Magic a thrilling 1-0 victory over the previously undefeated Garden City Gladiators. Mineola’s team defense was spectacular and was led by Jack Keys, Kevin Graca , Stephen Collica and Matthew Tarantola. When Garden City managed to get past Mineola’s fullbacks, keeper Dylan Renner was there to back them up, making tough save after tough save all game long.

Kieran Hendry scored the winner early in the game, pushing home a rebound of an Aidan McMahon shot. The Magic’s strikers kept the pressure off their defense and goalkeeper in the second half and were paced by the play of Kevin Graf, Karthik Pitchayan, and Zach Wasnofski. The Magic prevailed and held off Garden City to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Mini-Mustangs Clinch First Place

Nov. 6-The GU13 Mineola Mini-Mustangs clinched a division title with a 2-0 win at Massapequa, improving their record to 7-0. Mineola’s stingy defense once again led the way, with centerbacks Jillian Palma and Meghan Lafaye controlling the middle of the field.

Valerie Cobos skillful play on the right side on Mineola’s back line led to numerous counterattacks from Mineola. Allison Lamonica, off a perfect touch pass from Natalia Cotto, drilled a low shot into the Massapequa goal to give Mineola a 1-0 lead in the first half. Seconds into the second half, Shannon Durham corralled a cross from Christen Patalano and belted a hard volley home for Mineola’s second goal.

Durham and Cara Kennedy teamed in goal to earn Mineola’s fourth shutout of the season.
