It’s been another great week at the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool. Attendance is up due to the glorious heat and bouts of sunshine that everyone has experienced lately.
Last week, approximately 80 incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders graced the pool for Middle School Night. Everyone was extremely well-behaved and had loads of fun dancing around and enjoying meeting their classmates.
If you missed Middle School Night, the second Family Fun Night of the season will be held on Aug. 1 from 8-10:30 p.m. For those attending, you are encouraged to bring your own snacks, beverages and table. Just a friendly reminder to all, this event is for Mineola residents with Leisure Passes and their guests only.
There will be a pool/recreation board meeting on Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at the John S. DaVanzo Community Pool on the upper deck. All are welcome to attend.
There’s never a dull day at the Mineola Summer Recreation program, due to the fact that there’s non-stop fun and action.
About half of the campers have already gone to Sheridan Lanes for day trips and the sixth, seventh and eighth graders have been to Q-Zar. On July 17, the whole camp celebrated the hot weather with “Wet’ N’ Wild Day.” Campers had the opportunity to utilize a gigantic water slide, dunk their counselors in the dunk tank and chow down on cotton candy and ice pops.
Campers will be looking forward to tie-dying in the upcoming week. Kiwanis Day will conclude the week with track-and-field events, such as tug-of-war and potato sack races and a barbecue hosted by the Kiwanis Club.
The campers are enjoying their summers and are looking forward to the fun-filled activities and events in the weeks to come.
