On Sunday, Oct. 16, the Mineola 10U intramural baseball team hosted East Williston at the Willis Avenue field complex. Mineola defeated East Williston 15-6.
The Mineola offense put on a show with big hits by several Mineola players. Almost every Mineola player reached base at least once. The Mineola offense was led by Kenny Solosky, 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Jordan Sandler, 2-for-2, 2 runs scored, Derek Lekhwani, Kevin Roach, Nick Librandi, David Escorcia, Patrick Lanigan and Josh Giron.
The defense was impressive with nice plays by Ryan Burke, Tommy Curry, Brendan Mulrooney, Isiah Roman and Joey Boshans. Jimmy Tighe, making his pitching debut, turned in two strong innings of relief for Mineola.
On Monday, Oct. 17, the Mineola team hosted the Garden City Fire at the Willis Avenue field complex and were soundly defeated 11-1. Uncharacteristically, the Mineola bats were silent, the pitchers couldn’t find the plate and the defense committed several crucial errors. The Garden City pitching was strong and kept the Mineola hitters off-balance. The lone Mineola run came off a Jordan Sandler double.
On Friday, Oct. 21, the Mineola 10U (5-2) hosted Manhasset at the Willis Avenue Field complex. Under the lights on a perfect autumn evening for baseball, Mineola came up with the victory 14-4.
The highlight of the night was solid pitching turned in by Ryan Duffy and Patrick Lanigan. Duffy and Lanigan allowed only two runs each and kept the Manhasset hitters off-balance all night. The few times Manhasset seemed to be gaining momentum, Duffy and Lanigan shut them down.
The Mineola offense continued to impress, scoring 14 runs. The big hitter of the evening was David Escorcia with a bases loaded double and a sacrifice fly. Escorcia finished the game with 4 RBI’s. Jordan Sandler went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Duffy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Nick Ramirez, Patrick Lanigan and Aidan Tice provided other big hits.
The defense was solid with Kenny Solosky catching four strong innings behind the plate. James Tighe, Kieran O’Gara, Andrew Geagher and Steven Collica also played strong defense in contributing to the victory.
On Sunday, Oct. 23, Mineola hosted Merillon (New Hyde Park) at the Willis Ave. field complex and won 7-0. The storyline of this game was pitching as Jordan Sandler and Patrick Lanigan combined for a one hit shutout. Sandler struck out 11 and Lanigan pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam.
Kieran O’Gara (2 RBI’s), Tommy Curry (2 RBI’s), Joey Boshans, Steven Collica, and Aidan Tice provide the much needed offensive support. Patrick Solosky scored two runs and had three stolen bases.
The Mineola defense was led by Kenny Solosky, Joshua Giron and Andrew Geagher. The game ended dramatically with a Merillon single to right. The Merillon player, trying to stretch his single into a double, was gunned down by a strong throw by Steven Colllica to Jordan Sandler. Sandler applied the tag ending the game.
