The Chiefs 10-year-olds went on the road and were victorious as they beat the Inwood Buccaneers 22-6. The first half was a defensive battle, with each team fighting to get on the board first. With just enough time to run one more play before going into half time, the Chiefs used a play out of the Boise State Broncos playbook. Chiefs’ quarterback Michael O’Connell pitched the ball to running back Matt Sluka going to the right.
Sluka then, looking down field at wide receiver Thomas Albig froze the Buccaneer’s defense and with perfect timing threw the ball back across the field to his left to a wide-open O’Connell for a 20-yard touchdown.
The Chiefs’ offense led by quarterback O’Connell (3 TDs) and the solid running by running backs Lance Costa, Naz Jackson, Jack Duff and Matt Sluka were able to move the ball against the Buccaneers because of the great sound blocking by the offensive line of Kevin Parente, Patrick McTiernan, Anthony Giunta, Brandon Coward, Michael LaGinestra, tightends Dylan Vincenti and Philip Arnold.
The Chiefs’ defense was in your face mean, making team tackles all over the field. The defensive Line of Matt Grimm, Joe Martello, Michael Sinisi, Spenser Warantz, King Welker, Joe Tallini, Joshua Jacob, Chris Dicanio, Ryan Calderone and Vincent Pomara kept the pressure on Inwood’s offense throughout the game. Cornerbacks and safeties played lights out; they were lead by Andrew Casoria, Duff, Costa and Albig. The linebackers O’Connell (2 interceptions) and Sluka (1 interception) attacked the ball and finished off the Buccaneers.
This brings the young Chiefs Winning Record to 4-1-1.
