Can’t Find Equalizer
Against Valley Stream
March 26-The Girls U12 Mineola Mini-Mustangs, trailing 2-0 at the half in its match against the Valley Stream Vipers, found its legs and cut the lead to 2-1 off an Allison Lamonica goal midway through the second half. With fullbacks Olivia Delay and Meghan Lafaye inspiring their teammates with their physical play, the Mini’s appeared to tie the score.
After Lamonica was pulled down in the Valley Stream box, she fired her penalty kick into the corner of the Vipers goal, only to hear the referee whistle the play back on an unusual, disputed call. The Vipers keeper reacted well to save the second penalty and secure the 2-1 win for her team.
