The Chiefs 6th Grade Lacrosse Team in the most physical and hard hitting game of the year, leveled the Levittown Blue Devils 6-3 at the Lacrosse Jamboree held at Farmingdale College on June 14. This brings their 2009 season to an end with a final record of 8-1.
Both teams had a lot of bumps and bruises after this one, with bodies flying all over the field, that the penalty box saw the most action. But when the day was over and dust settled the Chiefs got the better of the Blue Devils. Chiefs Thomas O’Connell and Chris Lockwood recorded two goals apiece while Peter McCormack and Kyle Dunleavy each recorded one of their own. Midfielders William Berger, James Gerstner, Tom O’Dwyer and Gerard Boniello passed the ball around the field and out worked the Indians 25-18 on ground balls and attackmen Anthony Sarno, Marc Sarnell and Kyle Leinhart kept the pressure on the Indians goalie for most of the game. The Chiefs defense, led by Gavin Dowd, Eric Pacher, Trifon Boniello and Teddy Capsis, was all over the place, laying out Blue Devils every chance they got. Chiefs goalie John Clancy was a force in net while making six saves and posting yet another win to add to his career total.
All the boys played and participated in the victory. Once again, an injured Brian Smith was on the sidelines dying to get into the action as he cheered on his team to victory. Scoring is summarized as follows:
• Chris Lockwood – goal (assist by James Gerstner); goal (assist by Thomas O’Connell)
• Thomas O’Connell – goal (unassisted); goal (assist by Dom Paggi)
• Peter McCormack – goal (unassisted)
• Kyle Dunleavy – goal (assist by Teddy Capsis)
