Sept.25-The BU9 Mineola Magic continued its winning ways with a 6-0 win over Massapequa, to a record of 2-0. Jordan Sandler’s four goals led the team, with Stephen Collica and Aidan McMahon also providing scores.
Stellar midfield work by Sandler, McMahon, Kevin Graf and Jerry Flood kept Massapequa under control. Tristan Gilbert, Patrick Brady, Kevin Graca and Brendan McDonough’s solid defensive play helped keep Massapequa scoreless.
The play of Magic strikers Collica, Kieran Hendry and Ivan Kalinic combined to keep the ball on the opponent’s side of the field nearly all game.
Sept. 25-The GU12 Mineola Mini-Mustangs fell short against the Floral Park United, losing 2-1 in a game that saw the Mini’s carry the play most of the day but fail to convert a number of good scoring opportunities. Meghan Lafaye’s 30-yard missile of a direct free kick was Mineola’s only score.
The goal capped off a solid all-around performance for Lafaye. Mineola defenders Natalia Terezakis and Olivia Delay helped keep their team in the game with solid performances.
The Mini-Mustangs played a second game on the weekend, falling to a tough Commack Sting team in a 1-0 thrilled that eliminated Mineola from the State Challenge Cup Tournament. Mineola’s defense was solid again, with Valerie Cobos, Antonia Ciuffo, Michelle Viola and Jillian Palma leading the way in front of keeper Cara Kennedy.
