The student athletes of Mineola High School don’t know what rest is. These athletes better themselves by playing all year round. For coaches, this is something that they love to see because it means that not only are they practicing but they have a chance to really grow and progress over a long period of time and come back the next season to show it all off at tryouts.
Members of the sports teams have participated in summer sports programs and as a result this gives them a leg up on the amount of conditioning and muscle memory that they will need to learn throughout the course of the season. As mid August rolls around the fall season starts off with a bang.
The football team is in the weight room and having three-a-day practices, girls volleyball is in the weight room and started tryouts, cross country is off and running and the soccer teams start their conditioning straight out of the gate. These athletes put in so much time and effort to try and gain that little extra edge over the other teams and it never goes unnoticed.
Even athletes who don’t play in the fall are in the weight room and running the track during the summer and fall prepping for the winter and spring seasons to come. There is never a day where that weight room is empty during the hours that it’s open or a day where the track goes untouched by running feet.
When the students stepped into the school that first day all the feelings of school come rushing back but one thing that never left was the feeling of playing a sport. Training all summer long and then starting up with the school teams in mid August; it’s like they never left the gym or field.
