This winter season proved to be one of great accomplishments for the Mineola boys and girls bowling teams. Going into the season the teams had their sights set on making the playoffs and competing against the best the county had to offer.
The girls team finished 10th overall in the county and placed 12th overall in the county tournament. Finishing the season with a 7-5 record, the girls were the only team in the county to hand juggernaut Sewanhaka a game loss during the season.
Come join Long Island’s only all-female Roller Derby team, the Long Island Roller Rebels, at their 2010 season opener as they take on the Jersey Shore Roller Girls on Saturday, March 13 at Skate Safe America, 182 Bethpage Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage. William Jaye of Garden City and Maryanne Mannion of Oyster Bay were named winners in Mineola Bicycle, Fitness and Mower’s “Mountain Bike Raffle Extravaganza,” a raffle recently held by the Mineola store to raise money to benefit the Child Life Program at the Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop-University Hospital.
The Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club will be celebrating their seventh Long Island Soccer-Futebol League championship on Feb. 20 at the Mineola Portuguese Center (306 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola) with a gala and fundraiser. In addition to a live band and both American and Portuguese cuisine, the event will include the 2009 MPSC Hall of Fame inductions, appearances by former MPSC players who have since played professionally, the owners of the sponsoring companies, and local politicians. The Mineola girls varsity basketball team defeated Jericho’s Lady Jayhawks by a score of 55-48 to win its first conference championship in over 30 years. Sophomore Kerry Medlock led the team in scoring for the second time this season with 15 points and junior Krystie Kern had a break-out game with 12 points as she drove hard to the hoop making Jericho’s defenders get into foul trouble early and often throughout the game.
The Corpus Christi boy’s third grade basketball team concluded their very successful 2009-2010 basketball campaign against St. Mary’s of Manhasset at the St. Mary’s Girls High School gym.

The Muttontown Preserve will host a guided “Winter Trek” hike on Sunday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Open registration for Spring 2010 ice skating classes at the beautiful indoor ice skating rink at Cantiague Park begins the week of Feb. 8 and runs through the start of classes the first week of March. Open registration is for patrons who did not participate in the Winter 2009-10 classes.
Athletes and families of the Corpus Christi CYO sports program experienced a very special day together as they attended Mass, enjoyed breakfast and then played several basketball games!
The day began as the players, families and friends gathered for the Corpus Christi Church 10 a.m. family Mass. The players proudly wore their CYO team jerseys as they celebrated mass together.
