The 2010 Mineola High School Athletic season is off to a very successful start. The year began with the varsity Football team hosting Valley Stream North in their home opener. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead only to see Valley Stream North make a comeback and tie the game 23-23. It was a late drive engineered by Junior QB Robert Clarkin that sealed the victory for the Mustangs.
The student athletes of Mineola High School don’t know what rest is. These athletes better themselves by playing all year round. For coaches, this is something that they love to see because it means that not only are they practicing but they have a chance to really grow and progress over a long period of time and come back the next season to show it all off at tryouts.
The U12 Mineola Mini-Mustangs began its fall campaign with a hard-earned second place finish at the East Meadow Soccer Tournament, New York State’s largest soccer tournament. Mineola earned four points in pool play to advance to the championship game on Aug. 29.
The rebirth of the boy’s soccer program at Mineola in the last decade has brought considerable notoriety and success to the school. This year the team expects to continue that tradition.
Students at Charles Water Karate and Fitness participated in the studio’s 26th Black Belt testing cycle. “Our goal at Charles Water’s Karate and Fitness is to facilitate mental growth enabling our students to reach their highest potential as human beings,” says Grandmaster Charles Water, owner and director of the school.
Charles Water’s Karate and Fitness is a full time, professional martial arts school, with classes for children, adults and teenagers. The school is the only one on Long Island that also offers Karatatot, the only program specifically designed for children 4 ½ to 6 years of age.

The 12U MAA Mineola Hurricanes stormed in to Cooperstown on Aug. 20. This marks the first time in MAA history that an MAA sponsored team comprised of all MAA baseball players competed in a weeklong tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park.
At Charles Water Karate & Fitness, random acts of kindness have always been a part of the values that are instilled; we always recognize students at the studio for their random acts of kindness.
Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OBVR) will offer up 19th-century entertainment over the Labor Day weekend, with period musical performances and dance, as well as a series of “base ball” games. The “Olde Time Music Weekend” festival will take place on Sept. 4 and 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Last week in Atlanta, MMA Fighter Andrew Montanez defeated Dustin Chovanic to win the National Fighting Championship’s Middleweight title. Winning the title in his 25th professional MMA fight. Montanez was a 2003 Mineola High School graduate and a four-year varsity wrestling standout.Page 27 of 41
