Friday, 02 April 2010 00:00I’d like to thank The Roslyn News for the excellent March 18 article (“World Class Art Comes to Roslyn”) exploring the growth of Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA) during the years in which I was the museum’s director. This report really pointed to the singular place NCMA has come to hold in our community for lovers of fine art, gardens and the outdoors. Under the guidance of the museum’s board of trustees and with the support of a fine staff, an extraordinary institution has been established that rivals the best of art museums across the country.
One suggestion in the March 18 report needs to be amplified. The article correctly points out that the first-rate exhibitions offered by NCMA require extensive funding. But it does not make clear that this funding is acquired through the efforts and contributions of the museum’s board of trustees, a privately elected group responsible for the museum’s governance, and the museum’s Director. Museum staff members provide support for the board’s fundraising efforts, but it’s the board and director that raise the funds that make our work possible.
Thanks again to The Roslyn News for this important recognition of what has been accomplished by the board, staff and supporters of Nassau County Museum of Art.
