Are you looking to join a group of active seniors in the Mineola area? A group that provides speakers on topics of senior interests, such as steps to take to prevent falls? One that provides musical entertainment featuring many of the classics that we heard on the radio in our younger days? One that provides good fellowship and socialization at monthly meetings?
Then join the Mineola chapter of the AARP. You need not be a resident of Mineola. We have members from all the surrounding communities; Albertson, Williston Park, New Hyde Park and others.
If you are a member of AARP, it is a natural step to join a local group. Come join fellow seniors in socializing over coffee, and enjoying our activities.
Want to help the Mineola community? The Mineola AARP Chapter participates in Winthrop University Hospital’s Meals on Wheels and is a big provider of canned goods and other materials to Mineola area charities. We also make lap robes for area hospitals and senior homes. We always have room for more hands for our community activities.
Our chapter meets at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and pastries at Mineola Village Hall on the fourth Wednesday of every month, September to June. At 10 a.m. our meetings begin. Hear the latest on health tips and legislation affecting seniors. Sing along and yes, even dance, to the songs of bygone days.
Plan to participate in our Pizza Day and Turkey Sandwich Day. Have a good lunch at a great price with friends. Also consider joining us for our annual holiday luncheon in December.
Our annual dues are $12, but we offer a $2 discount to those joining before Jan 1, 2013. Our first meeting for the 2012-13 year will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Why not stop in and join us?
I look forward to greeting new faces on that day. Hope to see you.
