For nearly two weeks, the Mineola community gave generously to The Golden Rule Project, a school supply drive to benefit flood victims in the southern tier of New York State. The project culminated on Friday, Sept. 23 with our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael Nagler, behind the wheel of a jam-packed box truck as we drove north to deliver the donations.
We were greeted in Binghamton by a slew of television and newspaper reporters, as well as extremely grateful superintendents, faculty, staff and parent volunteers from three area school districts. Amid handshakes and hugs and even a few tears, the supplies were unloaded and distributed to those who are working so hard to rebuild the schools and communities in which they live and learn.
The Golden Rule Project was a clear demonstration of the strength of our Mustang community and its willingness to “…contribute to a global society.” With sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this project, we remain.
