Obituary: Antoinette McCormack

Antoinette McCormack, longtime Mineola resident and clerk of the village court from 1978 to 1995 passed away on June 21, 2012 after a long illness. She was 88 years old.

Known affectionately to everyone as Teddy, she was born, along with her twin sister, Fran, in Westbury, to Erminia and Pasquale Siniscalchi on June 13, 1924. Since it was the Feast of St. Anthony, her parents named her Antoinette. Teddy remained devoted to St. Anthony all her life. Teddy was one of 11 brothers and sisters which included the late Anthony Sinisccalchi, Madeline Southard, Ernestine Walther, Joseph Sinischalchi. Mary Mosso, Thersese Wachter and Ann Rottkamp.

Teddy was a graduate of St. Bridget’s R.C. School and Westbury High School. In 1947, Teddy and her twin sister Fran went on a blind date with two Mineola boys, just back from the war. Paul Burgdorf and Charlie McCormack. Fran married Paul in 1948 and Teddy married Charlie in 1949. They had three children, William, Charles Jr. and Mary Frances.

In 1965, Teddy went to work for the village court as a clerk typist. She became clerk of the court in 1978, a position she held until her retirement in 1995.

Teddy is best remembered for her devotion to God, family and community. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and a daily communicant for many years. She was known for her kindness and charitable works.

Teddy is survived by her two sons, Bill and Chaz, and her daughter, Mary Calogero; her grandchildren, Sean and Colleen McCormack and Julie and Danny DeSimone; her son-in-law Tony Calogero and daughter-in-law Teming McCormack; her beloved twin sister Fran Burgdorf; her brother Carmine Siniscalchi, his wife Helen, her brother Patrick Siniscalchi, 23 nieces and nephews, 38 great-nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews, all who loved and will miss “Aunt Tete.”

The wake will be held at Cassidy Funeral Home in Mineola on June 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held in Corpus Christi Church on Monday, June 25 at 9:45 a.m. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
