Obituary - Elaine C. Madson

Elaine C. (“Chris”) (“Cooie”) passed into her eternal life unexpectedly but peacefully on March 4, 2011 surrounded by loving family members. She was the daughter of Muriel (nee James) and Edward Madson who preceded her in death. Left behind to deeply mourn her loss are her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Gerard McGee, her brother Edward Madson (widower of Emily) and her sister-in-law Mary Madson (widow of James Madson).

Chris was the personification of a loving aunt and godmother. Her nieces and nephews, Jerry-Joe, Edward, Jeremy, Rebecca and Katy (deceased) were left with the memories of a loving, caring, devoted aunt and friend.

Throughout her life she was a very family-oriented individual. Chris loved babies. Any new arrivals to the family she greeted with much joy. She cherished many enduring friendships.

After retiring from her job as a New York State employee, she became a literacy tutor, instrumental in helping several students become citizens of the U.S. and she was extremely proud of these accomplishments. As a life-long reader, she found sharing this love of reading a highlight of her retirement years. She enjoyed the opera, especially listening to Pavarotti, her favorite tenor. Although she was a New Yorker, she proudly wore the colors of “her” team, The Boston Red Sox, leaving herself open to some startling remarks from perfect strangers.

In her early years she developed a love of camping and continued camping through 2010; she fondly and humorously recalled frequent trips to Walt Disney World.

May she rest in peace.
