Lyman Fussell, MD, of Amherst, NH, formerly of Mineola, died on Sept. 24, 2009 in his 108th year. Dr. Fussell graduated from Columbia University and Cornell Medical School. He was a general practitioner in Mineola for over 50 years and chief police surgeon for the Nassau County Police Department. Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee McGrath) Fussell. Loving father of Barbara Callahan (Thomas). He was predeceased by two sons, John L. Fussell and James D. Fussell, MD. Also survived by 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Cassidy Funeral Home, Mineola. Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Church. The former mayor of Williston Park, Thomas Muldoon, died suddenly, at home, on September 17, 2009.
Muldoon, a familiar figure in the Village of Williston Park, could always be seen, with camera around his neck, since leaving office, taking pictures at key events in the village.
Franklin R. Liebert, former mayor and longtime resident of Garden City, died in Williston Park on Sept. 14, 2009 at the age of 80. He was born in Astoria, Queens, attended Brooklyn Tech High School and graduated from Purdue University with an electrical engineering degree in 1951. After college he worked for Sperry Gyroscope/Rand for over 40 years on aerospace and defense radar systems.
The Village of Mineola lost an important part of the community on June 9, 2009 when Rae Sellitto died at the age of 86. Mrs. Sellitto was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She was adored by members of the Mineola Leisure Club and Mineola Golden Age Club, where she made many friends among the seniors living in the village, and loved being a part of those organizations.
Brian S. Saloy, of Mineola, and a former Garden City resident, passed away on April 24, 2009. He was 34. He was the loving son of Stephen and the late Maureen; beloved brother of Gregory (Allison); Loving fiancée of Maria Calabrese; devoted grandson of Viola Hand.
Freida Graef (Ohlmann) (nee Heinbockel) 104, of Mineola, formerly of New Milford, NJ, died on May 9, 2009. Loving wife of the late John Ohlmann (1941) and Albert K. Graef (1971). Beloved mother of Barbara Ann Ohlmann Hartig of Mineola, Marie Murrell of Dumont, Doris McCauley of New Hampshire and the late Albert J. Graef (2004). Adored grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Cherished aunt of Dorothy Sahli, John and Robert Ohlmann and John and Robert Heinbockel. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry and Walter Heinbockel and sister Meta Muller. Services were held in New Jersey.
William John Gregory died of cancer on Jan. 29, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA, at the age of 69.
A former native of Williston Park, William was born at Nassau Hospital in Mineola on Feb. 19,1939. He attended St. Aidan’s School and served as an altar boy. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1957 and received his B.A. in philosophy from St. Bernard College in 1961.
