If you are a fan of a wide variety of Asian fare, you will love the mix that Niji, a new Asian fusion restaurant at 121 Mineola Blvd., has to offer. Niji opened this past December, taking the place of Jani Restaurant, which offered a similar Asian Fusion menu.
“We serve a combination of Chinese and Japanese food with over 130 Chinese dishes and 40 different choices for sushi,” said owner Alen Gao. “Our menu consists of items like the crispy duck, Indonesian Sambal and the Niji Triple Delight, which is a combination of jumbo shrimp, chicken and beef sautéed with garden vegetable in house.”
Gao, 25, is a first time restaurant owner.
“I came to the United States 10 years ago and currently live in Flushing,” said Gao. “The restaurant business is always something I’ve been interested in.”
Niji is located on the corner of First Street and Mineola Boulevard in the heart of the busy downtown area. It is close to the Mineola LIRR Station, Winthrop University Hospital and the multitude of office buildings off of Old Country Road.
The interior space of Niji is neatly put together with a black and white motif for tables and chairs, a large sushi bar with a lifelike tree placed in the middle and green and blue neon lighting above the main dining floor.
“We wanted a place to appeal to everybody,” said Gao. “Some place people can come in and be comfortable and relax while dining.”
Niji offers catering services and accommodations for special occasions.
The sushi bar is large with popular selections like the California Dinner, Spicy Maki Combo and Chirashi, which is assorted sashimi over sushi rice.
There is a small bar set up in the restaurant’s main entrance and happy hour is offered from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with 30 percent off on drinks for dine-in customers only.
Niji offers take out and free delivery services.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
