Making His Way Back Home

Starring role in legal drama for Hoffman

Rick Hoffman has come a long way from waiting tables in Hollywood. He is a veteran of several television series. But The Wheatley School graduate is currently starring in his biggest role yet, that of Louis Litt in the successful USA Network legal drama, Suits.

Hoffman has had roles in various television series, starting in 1997 with Conspiracy Theory. From there, Hoffman found plenty of work, appearing in such shows as Philly, The

Bernie Mac Show, Jake in Progress and Samantha Who? On the road to Suits, Hoffman achieved a breakout role as Freddie Sacker in the short-lived 2000 Fox series, The $treet.

Despite having Jennifer Connelly as a starring character, the show only aired six episodes on American television. Still, Hoffman’s role as Sacker was considered the highlight of the program. It allowed him to quit his job as a waiter and leave Hollywood for New York.

Hoffman is having better luck with Suits, now in its third year. The program is a drama about the internal competition at a fictional Manhattan law firm, Pearson Hardman. The firm only hires graduates of Harvard Law School. However, one character, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams), manages to get hired at the firm due to his intelligence. The fact that Ross is a college dropout does not prevent him from getting a job, even though he is advertised as a Harvard graduate. Other characters, including Louis Litt, are suspicious of Ross’s past. Hoffman’s character is also in competition with Harvey Reginald Specter, a senior partner in the firm. As the series began, Litt plays junior partner who oversees first year associates. He becomes a senior partner and feeling confident, nearly leaves the firm to become a junior partner in a rival one. Litt stays on and becomes the firm’s quartermaster. Future episodes will track Litt’s journey through the law firm.

In addition to television, Hoffman has appeared in such films as The Condemned, Cellular, Hostel, Blood Work and The Day After Tomorrow. Prior to landing regular roles in television, Hoffman scored guest spots in such programs as Law & Order: LA, Crossing Jordan, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Monk and The Pretender.
