Marianne Macrae from the Robin Hood Foundation recently visited Mineola Middle School seventh-graders to discuss how the more than $700 students raised to help with Superstorm Sandy relief efforts will be utilized. She thanked students for their donation and showed a short video clip about neighborhoods that were devastated by the storm.
Students read newspaper and magazine articles that discussed the devastation of Sandy and provided personal accounts of individuals who were affected by the storm. As part of their study of persuasive writing, they examined the controversy surrounding the cancellation of the New York City Marathon and wrote editorials expressing their opinions.
