TNH Gears Up for Halloween

Clark Botanic Garden, located at 193 I.U. Willets Road, Albertson, is ready for Halloween. The Town of North Hempstead’s annual Spooky Walk, complete with spooky trails, vampires, ghosts and goblins galore and not for the feint of heart, will be held Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Not-So-Spooky Walk, suitable for young children, will be held Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1, from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 484-8600 or 869-6311. The cost of the Spooky Walk is $5 per person; admission to the Not-So-Spooky Walk is $3 per person.

Halloween at Clark Botanic Garden

Friday, October 30

Safe Halloween Party for Kids

The American Red Cross believes that the trick to having a fun Halloween is to knowing how to remain safe. To help children learn about safety, the Nassau Red Cross will open its doors for a Halloween Safety Party. Children, ages 6 to 11, are invited to participate in the event which will include carnival style games and a haunted house. They will learn what to do if a friend is choking; what to do if approached by a stranger; and other ways to remain safe while trick or treating. Children are encouraged to wear costumes; however, they are to be non-violent with no weapons, nor full-face masks. Admission is $5 per child and attendees must register in advance. The party is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 195 Willis Ave. Call 747-3500.


Sunday, November 1

Phantom of the Opera

There will be a screening of Phantom of the Opera (1925), starring Lon Chaney at the Chaminade High School Darby Auditorium, corner of Jackson Ave. and Saville Rd., Mineola, at 3 p.m. What makes it unique is that the film will have live theatre pipe organ accompaniment by Bernie Anderson Jr., an acknowledged master of that craft. Chaminade has the only theatre pipe organ in a public venue on LI. It has drums, xylophones, sirens, glockenspiels, and all the accoutrements of a theatre pipe organ. The console looks just like Radio City Music Hall’s organs. Admission $10 general; $7 Seniors, $5 children.

St. Joseph School Open House/Guided Tour

St, Joseph School, 450 Franklin Ave., Garden City, which is devoted to integrating the teachings of the Catholic faith within a creative and stimulating learning environment, is hosting an Open House Guided Tour from 9:30 to 11 a.m., for Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten. Parents will be able to see how St. Joseph School gives young children an early advantage for life by providing a uniquely well-rounded education in a nurturing, small-group setting. School Board and PTA members and family members of current will guide parents through the entire complex, including classrooms in the Early Children Education Center as well as the modern playground and indoor gymnasium. This very personal tour will enable parents to get answers to any questions they might have about the school including programs and sessions. St. John’s Fair

Held by the Ladies Aid of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Willis Ave. and Cornell St., Williston Park, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Homemade baked goods, stationery, Christmas gifts, handicrafts, white elephant items and gently used toys will be available. There will be silent auction for various theme baskets. A bloodmobile will be in the parking lot for anyone who would like to donate blood. All proceeds go to various missions around the world.
