“God must not be driven from all public life,” says Msgr. Robert Coyle, pastor of Corpus Christi Church. Secularists are trying to get God off our coins and bills. They have challenged the word God in the Pledge of Allegiance. This, Rev. Coyle said, is something that Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims and all others who believe in God should work together to resist.

Tom and Maryann Warnecke ate dinner at Eleanor Rigby’s. By the way, their oldest son Tim is engaged to Kristin Ballanti of Garden City. Tim lives on Lincoln Avenue.

It was good to see old friends Grace and Walter Crosby take up the gifts at a recent Mass. At that Mass, Msgr. Edward Tarrant says he often hears people complain about poor homilies, difficult to understand sermons, church too hot or too cold and so on. Msgr. Tarrant said that the only thing that counts is the Eucharist. The bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ. All the rest are of minor importance.

Roger Clemens is 50 years old but can still throw a baseball 87 miles an hour. He now plays for a minor league team. Many were surprised when he was found “not guilty” at his perjury trial. Roger was always known as a headhunter. When he pitched in a game against the Mets, Mike Piazza came to bat and hit a grand slam homer. The next time Mike came up, Roger hit him square in the head almost killing him. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Charlie and Sally Patterson, lifelong residents, have moved to Virginia.

The new commander of the Third Precinct is Sean McCarthy. He has a good crew to work with – guys like Jim Doughtery, Sean Coffee, Charlie Sillin, Mark Kellerman, Mike Lomarnicki and the rest.

Diane Nathan lives in Williston Park but enjoys reading this column.

We see that ad so often about Bora Bora that we looked it up. It’s a tiny island about the size of Mineola and Williston Park in the South Pacific.

Bill and Barbara Grant of Lewis Place have lived in the village for 41 years. Bill is a realtor with Rommel.

Ted Hinkel of Roosevelt Place was actually born in the village. He is a freelance photographer. He likes to take pictures of children and families.

Ray and Felice Barrick were at the Davenport. Ray’s mom is Vera. Ray is the CEO of the Donner Co. and lives in Baldwin.

Marge Hill was with the 8 a.m. group which enjoyed the senior swim at the pool.

Beverly Donnelly returning from a bus trip from Silver Spring, MD, fell outside of Penn Station. She is healing well.

Come rain or shine, Brother Richard is always skating through the village. He is the German teacher at Chaminade.

* * * *

Jay Leno saw an ad for a school reading, “Enroll today, your children’s furniture depends on it.” The word of course, should have been future.
