Clunky, slow and bland. Those are three words that would’ve described the Village of Mineola website…not anymore. The village recently unveiled a new website, which is mile better than its predecessor. The calendar is clearly visible, the load time is quick, not slovenly and what was once gray and red is now village-oriented in orange and white.
A welcomed change assuredly, the website redesign will turn more frowns upside down with those “slide boxes” going the way of the dodo bird.

Mineola Village Superintendent of Buildings Dan Whalen recently met with contractors, engineers and hospital reps concerning the $80 million Winthrop University Hospital construction project. He said the meeting detailed the placement of crane operations when the bulk of the project gets underway.
According to Whalen, street closures will be implemented, with most eight to 12 hour work days occurring on Saturdays, avoiding Sundays over the next 18 months. Winthrop did not return calls for comment.

The 6th Grade Chiefs Lacrosse Team played in the PAL Lacrosse Festival at Farmingdale State University this Sunday, June 9 and beat the Harborfields Tornadoes 7-5, finishing their season with an undefeated record of 9-0. All the boys played and participated in the victory.

Brianna O’Brien’s tie-breaking goal with a minute remaining propelled the GU14 Mineola Mustangs to a thrilling 3-2 win over a skillful Syosset team on June 1. With the score knotted at two, Mineola’s Natalia Cotto raced to a loose ball ahead of the Syosset goalkeeper and poked the ball loose to the onrushing O’Brien, who calmly drove the ball into the goal.
