Mineola resident Brandon Volino and his teammates, the Freeport Arrows Bantam A team, won the Long Island Amateur Hockey League's 2008-2009 championship after an amazing 15-1-2 record.
The Arrows clinched first place and then took on the fourth place Brewster Blackhawks. Volino scored an amazing goal in the game, which lifted to the team to a 3-2 victory, propelling the team into the championship game against the second place Long Island Rebels.
It was a close and intense game but the Arrows captured the championship with a 5-4 win. The win propelled the team into the "Tournament of Champions" in Chicago.
The Arrows finished as the runner-up in the championship game after a 4-3 overtime loss. They played teams from Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. It was a great way to wrap up a great season.
