Opinion

The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees meetings have been getting out of control. Some residents feel it's necessary to shout into the microphone system, talk over the board members, wave fingers in a chastising manner and display other examples of bad behavior. All this must stop.

The mayor begins all meetings asking everyone to keep it brief the first time around so everyone has a chance to speak. Some residents attend the meetings once in a blue moon with real problems that affect their everyday lives. Unfortunately, they are forced to sit for long periods of time, listening to long, repetitive speeches, having very little to do with village matters. These speeches should be given after everyone has a chance to speak.

In my opinion, the meetings are getting too long and very ugly. The use of the words "hell" and "damn" are occurring too often.

The village has an open microphone policy. The adults who attend these meetings should always be civil and pay attention to the rules so it will be fair to all.

I mean nothing personal but things have gotten out of control.
