The Wheatley School Physical Education Department is proud to announce that Ryann Pitcavage and Rahul Rai have been selected as outstanding physical education students. Criteria for their selection include exceptional performance in physical education, scholarship, leadership qualities, and service to The Wheatley School community. Ryann and Rahul were honored for their selection at an awards banquet that was held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Dec. 15. The awards program was sponsored by the Nassau zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Ryann is a dynamic young lady with boundless energy and a wide range of interests. She has been an "A" student throughout her high school years, with a 3.94 grade point average. As a physical education student, Ryann's skill development and attitude have been exemplary. She has maintained a high profile in a variety of school and community programs. She is a Dialogue Night facilitator, Lifestyles section editor of the yearbook, president of the Community Action Club, treasurer of both the World Affairs Club and the Environmental Action Club and an active member of the Inter-Cultural Unity and Varsity Clubs. She is currently enrolled in six AP courses, is an AP Scholar and has been inducted into the Latin, Spanish and National honor societies. In addition, Ryann has received a Latin National Exam Gold Medal - Summa Cum Laude, Spanish National Exam Silver Medal Level III and Bronze Medal Level IV. Ryann is a four-sport athlete, participating in soccer, winter track, lacrosse and track and field. She is also the captain of winter track and lacrosse teams. Somehow, Ryann finds time in her busy schedule to volunteer at North Shore Animal League and also shares her considerable talents to serve the needs of others as a math and science tutor.
While pursuing a highly competitive academic program, Rahul has achieved a 3.93 grade point average. In the physical education setting, Rahul participates with enthusiasm, is considered a leader among his peers, and has achieved an outstanding record of accomplishment throughout his high school years. He is a four-year starter and captain on the Wheatley tennis team. In addition to his involvement in Wheatley athletics, Rahul has pursued and committed himself to karate and dance. Rahul is a black belt in karate and is an assistant teacher of dance at Bollywood Performing Arts Center. As a member of the Bollywood Performing Arts Performance Troupe, he has performed at the Bollywood Movie Awards and Unforgettable Show, both at the Nassau Coliseum and at the Bollywood Music Awards in Atlantic City. Rahul is the treasurer and an active member of the Inter-Cultural Unity Club. He attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington DC. Rahul is currently taking four AP courses, is a member of the National Honor Society and won the student of the year for non-core AP American History course. Rahul also finds time to volunteer at the Interfaith Hospital of Brooklyn.
