Congratulations to 13-year-old Katie Cappeller of Mineola, who was presented with an award from the Greater Long Island Running Club in recognition of her athletic accomplishments for 2008. The award plaque was presented to Katie at the club's December 16 meeting in front of an audience of about 150 runners and friends.
Katie, along with her mom Annie, has become a fixture at local road races from one end of Long Island to the other and was the club's champion for 2008 in the Women's 14 and Under Age Group. The award was based on Katie's performance in the club's major races during the course of the year.
"Katie is a fine young lady and an outstanding athlete," said Greater Long Island Running Club pesident Mike Polansky. "It was our pleasure to honor her in this way."
With over 3000 members, the Greater Long Island Running Club is one of the largest running clubs in the northeast, and is involved with every aspect of Long Island running and racing.
