This past Sunday, Nov. 16, the annual Mineola Mustang Run took place under sunny skies. For members of the Mustang Run Committee, led by chairperson Linda Fairgrieve, the run was the culmination of months of hard work in organizing the annual fundraiser.
The Mineola Mustang Run reached a record level of participants, which amounted to 1,112. In addition, the winner of the race set a course record. Chris Mammone, 25, of Merrick finished the 3.1-mile race in 14:57. He was followed by wheelchair racer Peter Hawkins of Malverne (15:19) and wheelchair racer Adam Cruz of Brentwood (15:44). The top female racer was 34-year-old Noni Accenturi of Syosset, who finished in 17:48.
The run brings together many organizations who participate and who benefit from the proceeds of the run. There will be donations made to the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Mineola Athletic Association, the Mineola Police Athletic League, Mineola Fire Department for lifesaving equipment, Mineola Historical Society, Mineola Youth and Family Services, the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital and Parent and Child Education Program (PACE). Special donations will also be made to the Mineola Junior Fire Department and the Wounded Warrior Project as the run was held in tribute to the veterans.
