Mineola just got very lucky.

Jack Martins was unsuccessful in his congressional bid due to ignorance and status quo.

A wonderful person, outstanding leader and gifted elected official lost an election to a non-entity. Extremely disappointing for him. A dodged bullet for us.

Knowing Jack as I do, I feel for him, his family and his supporters. Losing a hard-fought and deserved election is discouraging, to say the least.

If it is any consolation Jack, know that a vast majority of village residents are immeasurably glad that we didn't lose you. Even though you have been blessed with all the talents prerequisite to succeeding in Washington, we're ecstatic you're staying with us.

Jack Martins is, perhaps, the best mayor this village has ever seen. His superb skill level is obvious to those who have dealt with him. I can't think of anyone more qualified to steer our ship in these troubled times.

Jack, I would never have wished this on you in a million years, my friend. You deserved better. But it sure is good to have you home.
