Chris Berg, who died recently, was one of the first residents of Beebe Road, North of Jericho. He and his wife, Mildred, had lived there 56 years. Chris went to school with John DaVanzo and knew Carolyn McCarthy when she was a young girl. Chris and Mildred were Indians in our 50th Anniversary play marking Mineola a half-century in 1957. Chris was a sales engineer in the field of piping for bridges. He will be missed.

John and Nancy Doyle were at the last chamber meeting. John is a realtor and Nancy works for the First Bank of L.I. They live on Shortridge Drive. Their son, Mathew, is serving his second Tour of Duty in Iraq.

Pat Woods has been working in our Justice Department for the past 15 years. She lives in Garden City Park, but used to reside on Wilson Boulevard.

Mary Calfapietra enjoyed her recent trip to Italy. She covered that country from Rome south to Sicily. A much-traveled lady, she had also been to India and to China.

Lou Citro opened his camera store on Mineola Boulevard 34 years ago. He is the son of Lou and Sue of Albertson Place. He went to Hampton Street School and graduated from MHS. He roots for the Yankees and in hockey for the Devils. Of course, he is most famous for being the boss of Maryann Fearon.

Firefighter and cop Bill Gresalfi is a man who enjoys living dangerously, whether it's entering a burning building or confronting an armed robber. He was a member of the NYC Police Department for 33 years and has been a member of our Fire Department for 21 years. Quite a guy.

A couple of former employees of the Jericho Diner have found work elsewhere. Tina and Arlene and the busboy, Lino, are now working at the Seacrest Diner and Santos, busboy at the Jericho, is now working at the Williston Town House.

Astoria Bank will be closing its branch at the station and transferring accounts to the Williston branch. Winthrop Hospital owns the land where the bank is located. Astoria had always been a tenant of the hospital.

Apparently, Garden City had given the green light to the nine-story Winston Condominium on Old Country Road. Garden City could have stopped the project because of the Winston's closeness to that village.

Mary Gorry has again purchased her season ticket for the NY Mets. Mary has been a letter carrier for 21 years with the Mineola Post Office.

Dolores Mangold of Wardwell Road enjoyed coffee at the Station Diner. She is back from a visit to Almo Gordo, New Mexico.

Lino Ferreira has been the host at the Davenport for 26 years. He and his wife Maria live on Schuster Place. Their daughter, Stephanie is a pre-law student at Adelphi and their son, Lino Jr. works for a law firm.

John Pavlovich of Dow Avenue recalls his time in the Merchant Marines in WWII. Their convoys traveled from Halifax to Liverpool, a city often ablaze from the German blitz. Twice German U boats attacked their convoys in the North Atlantic.

Father John Whelan often celebrates Mass at Corpus Christi. Father John was born in Jersey City but lived most of his life on Marcellus Road.
