On opening day this past Saturday, the Tigers (Carpenters Local 608) defeated the Marlins (Tsontos Furs) 9-8 in a thrilling come-from-behind win. The Marlins jumped out to a 6 to 1 lead after the first with consecutive hits by DiIorio, Proctner, Martinez, Gerstner, Moya and Duffy. But the Tigers, lead by the pitching and hitting of Vincent Bieniek, Steven Gessner and Ryan Eccher enabled the Tigers to claw back. Martinez threw out a runner at second with Thomas Moran applying the tag for the Marlins. Daniel Gavin made a game-saving catch in centerfield to end a threat from the Marlins.
On April 12, the opening day of the Mineola Athletic Association Little League Season, the A's (Willis Hobbies) defeated the Diamondbacks (K's Auto) 15-5 in a Minors division game. For Willis Hobbies, Tyge Duffy had an outstanding pitching effort with Joe Egan closing in relief. Offensively, Duffy had three hits, Joe Egan and Michael Bowen drove in three runs each and Marcos Goncalves celebrated his birthday by collecting his first Minor League hit and two RBIs. For K's Auto, Matt Haenel, Chris Theriot and Stephen Clancy led the pitching efforts. At the bat, Matt Haenel had two hits and Chris Theriot and Nicholas Kern each had an RBI.
On April 15, the Diamondbacks (K's Auto) defeated the A's (Willis Hobbies) 4-3 in a well-played game early season Minors division game. For K's Auto, Kyle Kern and Stephen Clancy combined in an excellent pitching effort to only give up three runs. This effort was almost matched by Willis Hobbies pitchers Michael Assalone and Michael Bowen, who combined to let up four runs. For K's Auto, Kyle Kern and Matthew Destefano each had two RBI with Matt knocking in the winning run. For Willis Hobbies, Tyge Duffy had two hits and an RBI and Max Amestegui had a hit and two stolen bases.
