A Mineola man was held up by an armed suspect after he answered his door. He was then injured when the suspect hit him in the head with the gun, police said.
On Saturday, April 5, at 5:30 a.m., the suspect knocked on the front door of a home on Harrison Avenue, police said. The victim, who is not being identified by police, answered the door and then was confronted by the suspect who is being described by police as a black male, six feet tall, with a muscular build, wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans.
Police said the suspect displayed a silver handgun and demanded money. After the 58-year-old victim refused, the suspect struck him in the head with the gun and took his wallet from his pants, police said. The wallet contained an undetermined amount of U.S. currency, according to police.
The victim was transported to Winthrop-University Hospital with minor lacerations.
