Palm Sunday always brings that fine Portuguese breakfast held at the club. With sausages, bacon, pancakes, eggs, doughnuts and coffee, all for $7, no wonder it's such a winner. You know where that expression, "It's raining cats and dogs comes from?" The streets in the northern English industrial city of Manchester were so filthy, that when it would pour rain, the gutters would flow with garbage and the carcasses of dogs and cats; the Irish writer, Jonathan Spitz, noted that fact in a 1709 essay.

With the closing of the Jericho Diner I lose a good news source. A diner has been at that spot for some 65 years, first as the old RR-style diner called the Dixie, which was torn down to build the Dorian, which after it was sold became the Jericho Diner.

The Downtown Restaurant on Mineola Boulevard is a good place to eat. Guillermina and Victor Garcia are the owners, aided by their daughter and son, Sandra and Victor. The family used to live on Burkhardt Avenue.

There was a good turnout for the annual Junior Fire Dept. dinner held at the Village Hall.
