The hearing regarding the Winston, a proposed nine-story, 285-unit condominium complex proposed for the north side of Old Country Road between Willis Avenue and Main Street will continue tonight at Mineola Village Hall at 7 p.m.
The applicant, Vincent Polimeni of Polimeni International, has already promised to build a parking garage, a senior citizen housing complex and give the village a grant in return for the village board allowing Polimeni to build the condominium complex, which would be in violation of the village code.
The code allows for a development to build 35 feet high or three stories. However, the applicant is looking to build an 88-foot tall building with units that would range in price from $392,000 to $903,500.
Based on the prices of the units that were included in an economic impact analysis of the Winston, the 285 units would sell for $189,358,000.
Thus far, the project has been met favorably by some residents. However, one resident who wrote a letter to the editor is last week's Mineola American questions whether the village is getting enough in return for the board granting a variance for the project.
The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at village hall, 155 Washington Avenue. A work session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
